When Matthew Naylor was approached about bringing a collegiate summer league baseball team to Gainesville last October, the former Newberry High School assistant coach couldn’t wait to get started.
After months of planning out a budget and finalizing a roster, the North Central Florida Baseball Stars are getting set to take the field at Santa Fe College and Santa Fe High School.
Part of the 23-team Great South League, which began in 2005 and has squads from six states, the Stars will play in the South division against teams from Tallahassee, St. Augustine and Thomasville, Ga.
